Moa Arts

Mua is an island in Zenadth Kes (the Torres Strait), about half way between the tip of Cape York and Papua New Guinea. There’s an art centre on the island—Moa Arts. It’s an unassuming weatherboard in the small village of Kubin doing big things.

Moa Arts is a hub of industry, creativity and culture. It supports the careers of local artists and arts workers but also functions as a place for community members from across the island to connect through creative projects.

I’ve spent a lot of time on Mua in the last few years, working with the artists and community to create multimedia stories about their work and their island. We’ve recorded interviews, art making, dancing, and the beautiful country that inspires their creative practice.

These stories are just small windows into the value of the Art Centre for the people of Mua Island. You can explore their artwork on the Moa Arts website.
