Monsoon Vine Thickets

Behind the dunes along the West Kimberley coast is a corridor of unique Australian rainforest called Monsoon Vine Thickets.

Taking Care of Mayingan Manja Balu (Monsoon Vine Thickets)

This ecosystem around the Broome area is particularly fragile due to the pressures of a growing community. Environs Kimberley and Nyamba Buru Yawuru Women’s Country Manager team are working together to protect and restore the vine thickets. This video features the team and the work they are doing. I was taken by their passion and knowledge of the plants and wildlife there. There was something pretty wonderful about the women nurturing Mother Nature.

Winner of the Science Category - This festival showcases short films that celebrate the Kimberley, made predominantly by filmmakers from this region. The premiere night was a wonderful forum to share the great work being done by local organisations to protect this extraordinary country.
